Back to Basics: Salads & DressingsCookingLet's continue to examine the tastes and flavors that enhance our food! We will create our own special dressings and drizzle them over salads made in class that can be taken home to share. The focus in this class will be building a great salad. We will will experiment with crunchy, tangy, salty and sweet elements to create a perfect salad from scratch. We will also master the French technique to create a perfect "Vinaigrette." Other salads will include Caprese and Caesar. To-go containers should be brought from home. This class runs until 6:00 PM. Beginning BakingCookingIn this "hands-on" class your scholar will learn how to "read" a recipe, how to use measuring tools, and the different leavening agents used in baking. We will use these new skills to bake cupcakes, cookies, and brownies and more! Students will work with the instructor to help decide what they will bake each week. To-go containers should be brought from home. This class runs until 6:00 PM. Child And Babysitting Safety ClassSpecial InterestParticipants will learn the responsibilities of being a prepared, safe, responsible, and professional babysitter. Topics include supervision, behavior guidance, proper bottle feeding/diapering techniques, personal and child safety, basic first aid, emergencies and fire safety. Dolls, bottles and diaper supplies are provided for hands-on participation. This class was developed by the Health and Safety Institute and is approved by the American Pediatrics Association. Cookie Baking ClassCookingIn this fun and flavorful baking class, middle school students will explore the world of cookies from different cultures! They’ll learn to bake a variety of treats, including classic French cookies, spicy gingerbread, and delightful Scandinavian varieties. Throughout the class, students will practice key baking skills like measuring, mixing, and decorating while discovering unique flavors and techniques from around the world. Holiday Ornament Wreath MakingArts and CraftsStudents will create a custom ornament wreath using decorative ball ornaments, ribbon, and a few optional embellishments. While everyone will use the same basic wreath-making method, each student can choose their own color palette and style—from classic holiday reds and greens to icy winter tones, metallics, pastels, or Hanukkah-inspired blues and silver. This class is perfect for students who enjoy festive décor, color design, and making something bold and beautiful to display at home. With lots of ornaments to choose from and room for personal style, every wreath will turn out unique. The focus of this crafty afternoon will be on creativity, invention, and transforming ordinary materials into tiny objects, creatures, furniture, foods, displays, or fantasy pieces. Stitch & Layer: Textile Art StudioArts and CraftsCreate your own textured fabric art using stitching, layering, and mixed materials. In this class, students will combine fabric, yarn, fringe, lace, beads, charms, and found textiles to build a piece that feels personal, expressive, and visually rich. Instead of focusing on perfect sewing, this class is all about experimenting with texture—loosely stitching, layering materials, and adding details to create something unique. Students can go for a cozy, vintage, grunge, soft, or abstract aesthetic, or create something completely their own. Projects can be turned into wall art, patches, mini hangings, or decorative pieces. No sewing experience needed—this is about creativity, not perfection. Tiny Shop Props & CuriositiesArts and CraftsStudents will create a collection of miniature objects and curiosities using clay, paper, beads, wire, fabric, and found materials. Projects might include tiny books, potion bottles, mushrooms, sweets, jars, trinkets, and other small decorative pieces inspired by little shops, fantasy collections, and miniature displays. Wayzata Middle School Clay Target ProgramSports and FitnessThe Wayzata Middle School Clay Target program is a partnership with Plymouth Gun Club and the Buffalo Gun Club. Experienced coaches work closely with each student to ensure proper technique, safety and skill building. The program targets Wayzata Public Schools students in grades 6, 7, and 8, however we will take 9th graders in the fall program on a space availability basis. Ninth Grade students are encouraged to join the Wayzata Clay Target team during the spring season of each year. Each student must own their own 12-gauge firearm and have passed the Minnesota DNR Hunter Education Firearm Safety program. Classes are offered twice yearly for 6 weeks. ·The Fall Program starts in early September. ·The Spring Program starts in mid-April and has an option of an additional night of instruction with the Wayzata High School Clay Target Team. **There will be separate sign ups for both programs on this site during early fall and early spring before each class starts.
