Generations Together: Stories & CulturesSpecial InterestsA unique, multi-generational summer experience designed to help families slow down, connect, and create lasting memories together. 9:00–10:00 AM | Write Your Story Children and adults collaborate to capture meaningful memories and stories through writing and photos. Participants reflect on childhood experiences and compare stories across generations. This brief yet impactful experience aims to familiarize children with the school to help a smooth transition into kindergarten. Gleason Lake teachers lead Jumpstart to K, and while the teacher your Rising K student meets for this program may not be their classroom teacher for Kindergarten, they will be another familiar, friendly face during the transition. This program is designed to be interactive and fun. Throughout the morning or afternoon, your Rising K student will engage in a series of interactive activities and guided experiences aimed at building confidence and enthusiasm for the kindergarten classroom. From a brief introduction to school rules and routines to navigating common areas such as the classroom, cafeteria, and playground, students will gain an understanding of what to expect in their new school environment. Jumpstart to K allows children another opportunity in their future school in a supportive and nurturing environment for this exciting milestone. Please note that Jumpstart to K is a drop-off program. Glinda and Friends for Good Musical Theater ClassDance, Theater & Performing ArtsHelp Glinda and the Wicked Witch of the West save Oz in the final act of this Wickedly Wonderful story! Choose a character, learn music and choreography, and create your own musical. Learn how to properly speak your lines, block a scene, develop your character, and much more! We will also play fun, creative theater games. All that is needed are comfortable clothing and shoes, a nut-free snack and a water bottle. Heartsaver® CPR AED CertificationSpecial InterestThe Heartsaver CPR AED course trains participants to give CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC). The AHA Heartsaver CPR AED Course is designed for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements. Intro to Stand Up PaddleboardingFitnessOn and off the water, Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) training that will have you comfortably paddling in no time! Learn the basics of SUP, including equipment overview, paddle, launch techniques, and general safety instruction. 45 minutes of instruction followed by 45 minute rental. Due to safety concerns, classes and rentals at Wayzata Beach are for individuals age 12+ only (age 12-15 must be accompanied on the water by a registered parent or adult guardian). Sorry, no riders. Renters under age 18 must have a parent or legal guardian’s signature on the required waiver form. Intro to Trout Fishing - Live on the StreamSpecial InterestThis five-hour, live fly fishing class on a trout stream begins with a one-hour introduction covering gear, flies, rigging, and knots. You will then receive fly-casting lessons on both dry ground and in the river. Finally, you will put on waders and boots to fish for trout under the watchful eye of your guide and instructor, Scott Harness. All equipment is supplied. This class will take place at either Kinnickinnic or Rush River in Wisconsin, which are about 1-1.5 hours away from the Twin Cities. More details will be sent to registered participants closer to the start date. *A 1-day Wisconsin fishing license and trout stamp will need to be purchased prior to class for approximately $25.
