This is your child's chance to paint on a real canvas board. During this guided lesson, your child will create a Halloween scene featuring a spooky, swirly, starry night sky that glows in the dark! The children are welcome to wear their Halloween costumes to class!

Wayzata Schools and HUG offer free home visits to all district families from birth to two years old.The visit includes a “Welcome New Baby” gift and current information on community resources, parenting and brain-based learning.The home visits are individually completed with a licensed Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) specialist.

The Heartsaver CPR AED course trains participants to give CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC). The AHA Heartsaver CPR AED Course is designed for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements. Registration includes a certification card and CPR/First Aid Manual. This course takes place within the Wayzata Early Learning School at 17340 County Rd 6, Plymouth, MN 55447.

Introducing our Hike with a Naturalist fall series! Join the Hike with a Naturalist fall series, led by Bennett Myhran, the City Forester for Wayzata, as you explore the Big Woods Preserve and Wood-Rill SNA with your family. These all-ages hikes offer a chance to learn about local wildlife, conservation challenges, and how humans connect with the natural world. Each class in this fall series will also include some appreciation for the mysterious science of autumn leaf color. **Parent participation required October 8: Get to Know Your Trees (all ages) If you live nearby, you probably spend most of your days surrounded by trees – but how well do you really know them? On this hike, we’ll talk about what makes these giants so impressive and what we can do to show them our appreciation. October 10: Welcome to the Big Woods (all ages) On this hike we’ll learn about the ins and outs of this unique woodland preserve. First-time visitors and lifelong enthusiasts are welcome! We’ll be stopping at a number of notable sites along the way to talk about trees, soils, wildlife, and how we humans fit into the equation. October 17: Conservation 101 (all ages) Woodrill SNA is home to an increasingly rare woodland ecosystem that once defined what is now the Twin Cities west metro area. On this hike, we’ll learn what makes an “old-growth” forest like this so special. We’ll discuss the opportunities and challenges faced by modern conservation managers in our area, and consider how we might borrow their insights.

Learn simple techniques you can reuse at home while making a full set of holiday extras you’ll actually use.

Step into a sweet winter wonderland in this joyful holiday cookie workshop. Back by popular demand is Tess’ Holiday Cookie Bake & Decorate class, where participants learn the foundations of decorating cookies with Royal Icing—now paired with a bakery-style favorite called Black-and-White Cookies—half-way between a cake and a cookie, and covered with glossy chocolate and vanilla ganache-style icing on top. If you’re looking to start a new holiday tradition and add a truly special cookie to your repertoire, this festive family-friendly class is for you. Gather your family for a fun baking experience or enjoy a little creative time for yourself. Participants will bake their own sugar cookies ahead of time so they are ready to decorate at the start of class. A PDF with two of the instructor’s personal sugar cookie recipes—one soft and chewy, one crisp—along with a full list of ingredients and supplies for Royal Icing will be provided roughly 5 days before class to allow time for shopping and baking. Choose to bake one or the other or both using cookie festive cutters of choice. The packet will also include supplies needed to create the bakery-style Black & White cookies that we will be baking together during class Together we will bake the gourmet Black & White cookies, create Royal Icing with the proper consistency, and learn the foundations of decorating with it on our pre-made sugar cookies. No fancy equipment needed. This class will take place on Zoom, free online software. Participants will receive instructions on how to access the class prior to it starting. NOTE: The instructor’s recipes are copyrighted and are only shared with those who register for this class. A list of ingredients and class details will be received in advance of the class with enough time for shopping and preparation. The Instructor’s Personal Recipe from this class will be included in a professionally made PDF packet to be received by participants after the class. As an added bonus, the instructor has created a private group and a public group on Facebook for participants of her cooking classes. Everyone will receive an invite to the groups although joining is optional. Come join the fun! Note: One registration fee for this online virtual interactive class can include immediate family members living full-time in the same home ONLY. If children are participating, adult supervision is required. If friends, adult children, or extended family members are gathering for a fun night together, EACH household must register SEPARATELY even if participating together. Refunds for any cancelations from this class will only be given if notice is received at least one week in advance, or prior to receiving the initial ingredient/prep packet.
