Bike Trailside and Home Repair/MaintenanceSpecial InterestThis camp will teach you basic bike set up, trailside repair, shifting adjustments, brake adjustments, learn how to re-cable a bike for shifting and brakes, tube replacement, tips and tricks, and preparing a bike for selling (if interested). Middle School Cajon and Amplifier Building ClassSpecial InterestStudents work with an instructor from Urban Boatbuilders on two woodworking projects they can take home: A passive amplifier for your phone, and a Cuban box drum or Cajon. These hands-on projects build measuring, cutting, drilling, woodburning and finishing skills while encouraging problem-solving, communication, and cooperation. Hand tools are emphasized. Middle School Campfire CookingSpecial InterestKids will take their fire skills to the next level by not only learning how to make fire and different fire structures but the science of using fire to cook things too! This class will teach all the basics like s’mores and tinfoil packets up to more advanced skills like dutch oven baking and spit roasting over the fire. Your campfire chefs will know how to make full course meals by the end of this class in addition to how to make a fire and manage it safely. Additionally, if your site allows it and there are things in season we may also do some foraging for some of the recipes too! We are working hard to have recipes for all dietary needs that are things kids will enjoy cooking and will be using a lot of raw and unprocessed ingredients and also have vegan, gluten-free, and nut-free options for most of the recipes we make. Please let us know if your child has dietary needs beyond this and we will work with you to make alterations when possible! Middle School Child And Babysitting Safety ClassSpecial InterestParticipants will learn the responsibilities of being a prepared, safe, responsible, and professional babysitter. Topics include supervision, behavior guidance, proper bottle feeding/diapering techniques, personal and child safety, basic first aid, emergencies and fire safety. Dolls, bottles and diaper supplies are provided for hands-on participation. This class was developed by the Health and Safety Institute and is approved by the American Pediatrics Association. Middle School Wild Teen Survival CampSpecial InterestTeens will learn essential survival skills through hands-on experiences in the woods. Skills covered include shelter building, fire safety, water treatment, orienteering, and pocketknife use. The camp ends with a survival challenge, where participants pack in and out to a wild location, testing their ability to survive with only a day pack. Supervised by EcoElsa staff, this program builds on basic survival knowledge and is perfect for teens who have taken other survival classes. Bring the bike you will be riding or maybe it’s that bike you are looking to sell to upgrade to your next race bike. We will cover what to do in a race if you run into some of the most common issues. Stay Looking Fly ClubSpecial InterestIn this program, we will focus on personal growth care, professional career options, natural hair and skincare. Students will leave the club feeling empowered and hopefully gain a skill of hair styling, braiding (plaits, cornrows, or extensions), manicures and facials. There will be competitions on braiding, hairstyling, and nail art. There will also be a showcase at the end of our club session. Our instructor is Arivia Black Morgan, who is a licensed cosmetologist, hair instructor, and manager.
